Clinical consultation is a recommended and ethically necessary aspect of practicing clinical mental health services responsibly. The APA recommends consultation as a means to best serve client populations (General Principle B: Fidelity and Responsibility) and as a way to assure the boundaries of clinical competence (2.01 Boundaries of Competence). As the prevalence in neurodevelopmental disorders increases, there is an increased need for evaluation and treatment services for these populations. Dr. Allura Malcolm, PhD, LP, an expert provider in neurodevelopmental evaluation and treatment with years of supervisory experience, is offering individual consultation appointments for mental health professionals to continue professional development, refine clinical skills, improve the quality of evaluations, feedback, and treatment practices.
Participants can expect to receive one-on-one support, feedback, and insight on their neurodevelopmental evaluation and treatment cases from an expert in the field. This includes clinicians who are seeking guidance in evaluation case conceptualization, diagnostic decision-making, recommendations following evaluations, and adapting treatment delivery to meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals. This is a collaborative clinical consultation model to discuss evidence-based recommendations for the clinician’s specific evaluation and treatment cases. It is important to note that this service does not replace individual supervision for clinicians who require ongoing supervision due to their level of licensure.
Appropriate consultation topics may include:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
- Intellectual Disabilities
- Learning Disabilities
- 2E+ profiles
- Parent Mediated Interventions
- Integration of neurodiversity-affirming care into treatment practices
Per the state of Michigan’s continuing education requirements, psychologists can earn up to 10 hours of continuing education for participation in consultation beyond supervision requirements. Participants will receive a certificate of hours participated upon conclusion of consultation services.
