Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)

About this event

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) Training:

We recommend that participants register for the Full Course (3-days) of the ADOS-2 training. Most participants register for the Full Course training, even if you are not planning to evaluating toddlers, as the third day of training provides essential information on Autism in early development and improves evaluators' skills.

Participants earn the following credits:

- 13.5 CE Credits for Modules 1-4 (first 2 days training)

- 6.75 Credits for the Toddler Module (3rd day of training)

For a total of 20.25 credits.

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2): Modules 1-4
13.5 CE Credits

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardized assessment instrument that allows us to accurately assess and diagnose autism and pervasive developmental disorders in individuals suspected of having autism. The ADOS-2 consists of various activities that provide interesting, standard contexts in which interaction can occur, thus allowing for observation of social and communicative behavior. The ADOS-2 can be used with individuals across ages (between 12 months of age, all the way through adulthood), developmental levels, and language skills. Each individual is administered one of five modules that is selected based on expressive language level and chronological age. During the training participants will be introduced to the administration and scoring of Modules 1-4. Trainers use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, videos, scoring discussions, and live administration of the instrument. This workshop is designed for professionals with a prior background in autism and formal testing, including psychologists, and to participate fully in the training, attendees must purchase the ADOS-2 Manual and ADOS-2 Protocol booklets.

While eligible providers from various disciplines are welcome to attend these trainings, please note that they have been developed to build upon the foundation of a completed doctoral program in psychology. Participants can earn up to 20.25 credits if they attend both the Modules 1-4 and Toddler Module workshops.

To participate fully in the training, trainees must purchase the ADOS-2 Manual and ADOS-2 Protocol booklets. This is a live online training and will not be recorded. Trainees must be logged into the meeting for the duration of the training to receive certificates of completion.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1. Describe administration of ADOS-2 Modules 3 & 4 (Day 1).

2. Describe administration of ADOS-2 Modules 1 & 2 (Day 2).

3. Identify at least 6 behaviors in children, adolescents, and adults that could lead to a referral for an Autism evaluation.

4. List 3 key pieces of information about the prevalence of Autism in the United States.

5. Discuss and practice coding ADOS-2 Modules 3 & 4 (Day 1).

6. Discuss and practice coding ADOS-2 Modules 1 & 2 (Day 2).

7. Describe the psychometric properties of the ADOS-2 (i.e., sensitivity and specificity).

8. Utilize the ADOS-2 algorithm to determine autism classification.

9. Select different ADOS-2 modules appropriate for use with individuals of different ages and language levels.

10. Assess individuals to rule out autism.
