Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) Clinical Workshop

The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) is a comprehensive interview that provides a thorough assessment of individuals suspected of having autism. The interview questions, which are administered to caregivers, cover several content areas including early development, language acquisition/possible loss of language or other skills, current functioning in regard to language and communication, social development and play, as well as restricted interests and repetitive behaviors. The ADI-R in conjunction with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2) has proven very effective in diagnosing autism spectrum disorders in individuals suspected of having autism. Didactic portions of this training include an overview of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including the importance of early diagnosis and treatment and best practices for diagnosing ASD, as well as a review of administration and scoring procedures of the ADI-R. Additionally, significant portions of the workshop are experiential, allowing for participants to engage in coding discussions and administration of the instrument. This training is designed for professionals with a prior background knowledge and experience in autism, clinical interviewing, and assessment of individuals with ASD. To participate fully in the training, participants must have access to the ADI-R Manual, ADI-R Protocol booklets, and ADI-R Algorithm forms.
While eligible providers from various disciplines are welcome to attend this training, please note that it has been developed to build upon the foundation of a completed doctoral program in psychology.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
Describe administration of the ADI-R.
Identify behaviors that are indicative of a diagnosis of Autism.
Discuss and practice coding of the ADI-R.
Utilize the ADI-R algorithm to determine autism classification.
Accurately administer the ADI-R.
Accurately code and score the ADI-R.
Assess developmental history and current concerns to rule out autism.
Differentiate between a circumscribed interest and unusual preoccupations when interviewing parents.
Obtain precise developmental information from parents needed to determine which components of the ADI-R to administer.
Describe essential components of a comprehensive Autism evaluation.
All training days are scheduled for 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time in the United States. For participants attending outside of this time zone, please note that it is your responsibility to determine your corresponding start and end time.
