Introduction to the Gold Standard Autism Assessment Tools

CE Hours 3

About this Workshop

This workshop offers an introductory overview of two essential diagnostic tools used in the assessment of autism spectrum disorder: the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). Through the use of video clips featuring real clients, participants will have the opportunity to observe both typical and autistic behaviors. These clips will illustrate key features of autism as well as demonstrate how the ADOS-2 and ADI-R measures are used in practice. While the workshop does not offer certification and participants will not be able to administer the measures independently afterward, it will provide valuable insight into the core components of autism diagnosis and assessment. This workshop is ideal for anyone working in or interested in the field of autism diagnosis, offering foundational knowledge to enhance your clinical understanding and approach.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the DSM-5-TR's 5 criteria for Autism and 2 factors associated with the heterogeneous Autism presentation.
  • List 3 things to consider when assessing for Autism.
  • Provide two examples of behaviors related to autism and three examples of absent typical behaviors that a clinician might observe during tasks in the ADOS-2 assessment
  • Describe two behaviors associated with autism and three examples of typical behaviors that might be missing, which a clinician could ask about during an ADI-R interview.
