Initial Consultation for Services

CE Hours 3

About this Workshop

In this training presentation, clinicians will learn more about the initial consultation process and specifically, how Sunfield Center conducts these sessions. At Sunfield, this appointment provides families a timely way to discuss their presenting concerns and allows providers to determine which services and providers are best equipped to meet those needs. In this training, clinicians will learn about key areas to assess as part of the consultation to inform next steps and also, to understand the limitations of the appointment. Because our center specializes in the assessment and treatment of ADHD, ASD, and Anxiety, Sunfield's initial consultation utilizes a semi-structured format with questions rooted in DMS-5 criteria and which align with common standardized semi-structured interviews. Further, a consultation model is provided which can be adapted to different settings

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the purpose, structure, and clinical considerations of conducting an initial consultation.
  • Identify initial and follow-up questions to make recommendations within the initial consultation.
  • Apply skills used in an initial consultation such as conceptualizing the case, identifying the need for additional information, and discussing initial recommendations.
