The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) is a comprehensive interview that provides a thorough assessment of individuals suspected of having autism. The interview questions, which are administered to caregivers, cover several content areas including early development, language acquisition/possible loss of language or other skills, current functioning in regard to language and communication, social development and play, as well as restricted interests and repetitive behaviors. The ADI-R in conjunction with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2) has proven very effective in diagnosing autism spectrum disorders in individuals suspected of having autism. Didactic portions of this training include an overview of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including the importance of early diagnosis and treatment and best practices for diagnosing ASD, as well as a review of administration and scoring procedures of the ADI-R. Additionally, significant portions of the workshop are experiential, allowing for participants to practice administration, coding and scoring of the instrument. This training is designed for professionals with a prior background knowledge and experience in autism, clinical interviewing, and assessment of individuals with ASD.
To participate fully in the training, participants must have access to the ADI-R Manual, three ADI-R Protocol booklets, and three ADI-R Algorithm forms. While eligible providers from various disciplines are welcome to attend this training, please note that it has been developed to build upon the foundation of a completed doctoral program in psychology.
